If you can only do one trip out of Havana on your holiday in Cuba, you absolutely must visit Vinales Valley. With it’s laidback vibe and stunning scenery it’s the perfect place to really get a feel for Cuban culture and natural beauty. Here’s a list of 6 things to do in Vinales Valley.
1. Visit a Tobacco Farm

Essentially, the entire valley is mostly farmland, and you’ll find many tobacco farms here. A visit to a tobacco farm will give you insight into the the whole process of cigar production.
You’ll get an understanding for farm life here and you can also learn to roll your own cigar.
2. Smoke A Cigar

You didn’t think you were going to leave Cuba without trying a Cuban cigar did you?
Why not go beyond that, and smoke a fresh one straight from the source. I am not a smoker, but this was a very memorable experience that everyone should try. Pro tip: ask the farm owner to dipped your cigar in honey, for a little something extra.
3. Go for a Walk in the Valley

Truly, my favorite thing to do in Vinales Valley was simply walking around and getting a feel for rural life out here. A walk to no where in particular will have you passing farms, lots of animals, colorful homes, and even more colorful fruit vendors.
If you want to practice your Spanish, feel free to try to strike up a conversation with some locals. People in Cuba are among the friendliest I’ve ever met, and with the laidback atmosphere Vinales they are especially warm and hospitable.

4. Stay in a Casa Particular

The best way to see what life is like in Cuba is to stay at a Casa Particular. These are essentially like the Cuban versions of Airbnb, but with meals included. Honestly, I can’t imagine staying in a hotel when you can literally stay with a local family, who will also cook for you and if you’re lucky, have family dinners with.

5. Go Coffee Tasting
Besides tobacco, coffee is another major crop being farmed here. A visit to a coffee farm will allow you to taste some local homemade brew and perhaps buy some as a gift to bring home.
6. Day Trip To Cayo Jutias
If you are craving the beach, there is an amazing one just 1 hour away. This beach features unbelievably white, soft sand on a lucky day you will find starfish here.
These are my top picks for things to do in Vinales Valley and I hope this list has convinced you you need to visit. Truly, just being there and experiencing the vibe alone is enough to make the trip worthwhile.
